Ask people who have already visited Mudgee and they’ll probably tell you that one of the most unforgettable experiences they’ve had is eating at the Pipeclay Pumphouse. This paddock to table restaurant is located in the grounds of one of the most renowned Mudgee wineries – Robert Stein’s and is considered topnotch when it comes to fine dining. Enjoy the delicious creations of Chef Andy Crestani while admiring the view of the vineyard, valley, and farm, where most of the ingredients are sourced. For more variety, Pipeclay also sources from other areas.
Pipeclay Pumphouse started operating in October 2013. Its paddock-to-plate theme became a new type of eating experience for Mudgee, one that tourists and locals came to love and return to.
Whatever’s on their veggie patch (depending on the season) goes to the plate. No wonder Pipeclay Pumphouse customers can taste the freshness out of every bite. They’ve got a wonderful menu that is designed for sharing.
Pipeclay offers breakfast, dine in, and set menus. You can choose a wine to complement your meal from their list or ask for recommendations. For degustation menus, you can swap courses. Yes, it’s that flexible!
And did I say service is great? Smiles are everywhere – from Chef Andy to head waiter Ben and his attentive staff. I guess it’s the overall ambiance of the place, the lovely view over the vineyards, the great range of local wine and the simple but delicious taste of the food that makes everyone feel happy.
But take note – because of the limited seats, you’ll have to book. They’re closed from Mondays to Wednesdays. I guess these are the days when they prepare their glorious food!
What Else Is There To Experience In Pipeclay Pumphouse?
Do you love classic motorbikes? Then take a step down memory lane as you view Robert Stein’s old motorbikes collection: 17 bikes dating from the 1920’s to the 1970’s! You’ll be amazed at how the bikes are taken care of through the years.
Want to make your next event memorable? Try Pipeclay’s function rooms. You can hold birthdays, reunions, or corporate events. However, they no longer accept weddings.
Time your visits when Pipeclay holds events like Degustation Lunch, Degustation Dinner or the famous Robert Stein Winery Footcrush Feast and you’ll have lots of fun. Yes, you’ll be taking home memories you’d love to remember for years to come!
